イベント詳細 | 講師:Yosuke Yamazaki (Lancaster University) 要旨: Daily variations of the geomagnetic field are caused by electric currents flowing in the dynamo region (90-200 km) of the ionosphere. At dynamo region heights, winds move electrically conducting air through the geomagnetic field, which generates an electromotive force to drive an electric current. By analyzing ground magnetometer data, it is possible to estimate the global ionospheric current system. Recent observations showed that the ionospheric current system can be significantly disturbed during stratospheric sudden warming events in the middle atmosphere. According to numerical models, such ionospheric effects are possible due to the modulation of atmospheric tides, which travel through the middle atmosphere before reaching the ionosphere. Those studies highlighted the importance of vertical atmospheric coupling in short-term ionospheric variability. In the presentation, the possible impact of vertical atmospheric coupling on the interannual variation of the ionosphere will also be addressed. |
