Receiving the 8th Bioindustry Research Award

Associate Professor Takayuki Kawai

Takayuki Kawai, an Associate Professor from the Department of Chemistry, has been awarded the 8th Bioindustry Research Award. This award was established 7 years ago by Japan Bioindustry Association to celebrate the 30th anniversary and is given to young researchers engaged in outstanding research activities related to biotechnology and bioscience that contribute to a sustainable society in future with appreciating practical application potentials.

Dr. Kawai has developed novel ultra-sensitive bioanalysis methods by efficiently manipulating molecules in capillary electrophoresis. He has achieved ultra-trace bioanalysis such as single-cell metabolomics (Kawai et al.Anal. Chem. 2019, DOI: 10.1021/acs.analchem.9b01578), single-cell drug permeability assay (Kawai et al.Anal. Chem. 2021, DOI: 10.1021/acs.analchem.0c03901), and tissue microscale pharmacokinetic analysis (Koganemaru and Kawai et al.Br. J. Pharmacol.  2023, DOI: 10.1111/bph.15988), all of which were difficult to realize with conventional technology. Dr. Kawai commented "I am extremely honored to receive this prestigious award. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the professors who have guided me and to everyone who has supported my research. In the future, I will continue to broaden my applied research and strive to contribute even more to society, especially in the fields of medicine and drug discovery".
